Prof. R. Bhaskaran joined Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering, Sripermubadur as Principal in January 2006 and took over the position as the Director of the College in June 2008. Prof.R.Bhaskaran is a former
Dean Continuing Education and Principal QIP (Quality Improvement Programme) Coordinator of IIT Kharagpur. During his long service at IIT Kharagpur of over 23 Years ( 1982-2005) as the Professor in Charge of Training and Placement, besides having been a Dean, he had served as a Member of the Finance Committee and Board of Governors of the Institute as a Member, as the Managing Director of Technology Foundation and a Chairman or Member of many Academic and Administrative Committees at the Institute, including the Senate and the Committee of Deans and Heads of Departments. He was on deputation from IIT as the Director Academic and Administration of Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala (2004-2005) and as Director (Technical) of Educational Consultants India Ltd. (1987-88). Prof.Bhaskaran has traveled extensively abroad, to the USA, France and the UAE representing IIT.

Prof. Bhaskaran started his career at PSG College of Technology in 1963 as an Associate Lecturer immediately after acquiring his degree in Civil Engineering. He was selected by the Government of India as a Senior Fellow under the Technical Teachers Training Programme in 1964 and underwent training for three years at College of Engineering, Guindy and also acquired the M.Sc. (Engg.) degree during the period. He later worked at Calicut REC as a Lecturer. During this period he also did his Ph.D. at IIT Madras (1969-73) and went on deputation to UPSC, where he was engaged in specialist functions for over 4 years as a Deputy Secretary and had been the co-coordinating Deputy Secretary of the Examination Reforms Branch of UPSC, before he moved over to IIT Kharagpur as a full Professor in 1982. He has a number of publications to his credit and has organized and participated in a number of National and International Conferences and Workshops. He had been the Organizing Secretary of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of IIT Kharagpur 2001-2002. Professor Bhaskaran is a Life Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Life Member of Indian Society for Technical Education and Life Member of the Indian Society for Training and Development.
