Professor & HOD -    Dr V. Stephen Pitchaimani M.Sc, M.Phil,Ph.D

Our World Class Petroleum Labs PETROLEUM Images

The Department of Petroleum Engineering of the college has highly qualified faculty from the discipline of Earth Sciences, Chemical Engineering with Specialization in Petroleum Refining & Petrochemicals and Petroleum Engineering. Experts from Oil Companies like ONGC & ABAN etc. are regularly consulted at all stages of curriculum design and someof their executives participate as Guest lecture.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

All disciplines within the field of petroleum engineering are covered in depth in the theory and laboratory classes. The curriculum of the programme covers both upstream and downstream activities. The areas covered include petroleum geology, geophysics, drilling, formation evaluation, reservoir characterization, well completion and stimulation, well testing, crude processing, production operations and artificial lift reservoir engineering, supplemental recovery, economic evaluation of petroleum projects, fundamental fluid and rock behavior, natural gas Engineering  petroleum refining and petrochemicals , transportation of petroleum environmental science and safety etc., The field visits, field training and project work would complete the preparation of  the students for a career in the oil industry.

SCOPE OF THE PROGRAMME

It is expected that there will be a great demand for graduates of this programme when the first batch comes out in 2009. We expect our graduates in petroleum engineering to enjoy wide variety of career opportunities in major fully integrated international oil companies, with smaller independent operators and specialized companies that provide services for the oil producing companies or others like consulting firms in oil and gas or the environmental arena.

The breadth and depth of our program is unique; and is multi disciplinary .The same is designed to prepare each graduate for a successful career with both technical competence and managerial ability .To maintain leadership in  current and future technology, decision making and management, the program include guest lectures by practicing engineers and earth scientists in the field, in addition to the field visits and field training .The petroleum and allied industries have lauded the launching of this programme and the popularity of the programme is reflected in the quite a large number of applicants for admissions for the same. A few of our students have been provided scholarship from oil MNC's for their four year study in our institution and they will be absorbed by the companies on successful completion of their programme.
